Description
Richard Box of the Norway-South Paris area recounts a particularly difficult Christmas which he spent overseas when he served in the military during World War II. Box was 29 when he went to war and he rose to the rank of sergeant.
In the attached audio clip, Box recalls Christmas 1943. He was stationed in North Africa where he repaired tanks and trucks at an allied base camp. Box relates how he and a group of tired soldiers put together a comedy show to lift the spirits of their fellow soldiers.
He recalls how the Italian prisoners of war at the base inspired the American soldiers.
